The 5 Most Profitable Nursing Businesses of all Time

Secret Formulas to Making Transformational Wealth

One question I’m often asked is: What is the most profitable nursing business of all time? This question is difficult because there is not enough research. But don't worry, I interview nurses who make money using their expertise. You'll be surprised at how profitable some of these businesses actually are. But make sure you read the entire email. See if you can understand why one business is more successful than another. You can use those principles to make more money in your own business.

So, let’s go over the businesses and their potential annual revenue:

1️⃣ Legal Nurse Consulting Business

Legal nurse consulting is a specialty in nursing that has only recently started making waves through social media, with some nurses, like Nurse Liz, working as independent contractors and others, like Lori, the Nurse Attorney, running an entire legal nurse consulting business with multiple nurses on staff.

As a legal nurse, your job is to assist lawyers with complicated medical cases. Lawyers may not understand medical terms or procedures that nurses are familiar with, and you can help them understand things like how a med error might have happened.

The potential earnings of running a legal nurse consulting business can range from $120,000 to $500,000 per year. Watch our podcast episodes of Nurse Liz and Nurse Attorney Lori to understand how they monetized their businesses.

2️⃣ Travel Nurse Coaching Business

You probably already know this, but if you don’t, travel nursing is one of the highest-paying specialties in the nursing profession. But did you know about another subspecialty of travel nursing called strike nursing? It pays tens of thousands of dollars for short-term contracts, usually 1 to 2 weeks.

Now, imagine for a moment that you work as a travel nurse and land your first strike nurse travel assignment. You make $30,000 in 10 days and now want to share this new-found knowledge with every nurse in the country. This is what Nurse Lois did after being hospitalized when a patient attacked her during one of her regular nursing contracts. It took her some time to recover from her injuries, but she needed a way to make more money to catch up with the income she lost in the process.

I would also like to preface this section by saying I do not promote strike nursing. However, I will say that I have absolutely nothing against strike nurses and their pursuit of earning more income.

Let me explain: When nursing unions go on strike, the hospitals have no choice but to hire strike nurses to replace them. Let's be practical: Can hospital administrators afford to indefinitely pay a strike nurse $1,000 to $2,000 per day? Is it wise to hire a nurse without proper training and the necessary tools? Absolutely not!

At the end of the day, when the strike nurses leave, the administrators usually give in to the staff nurses' demands. The history of nurses' unions supports this. Nurses who go on strike are always going to be the winners in the long run.

Now, let’s go back to the previous story of Nurse Lois. Lois went on to create a coaching program to teach other travel nurses how to make money by picking up strike nursing contracts. This year, Lois is on track to earn half a million per year from her coaching programs.

3️⃣ Medspa Business

You’ve probably seen and heard more of Medspa businesses over the last 2–3 years. Why is this? I'll tell you why. Medical spas are businesses. Nurses can do Botox and other treatments there. They do lip fillers, chemical skin treatments, eyelash extensions, and tattoo removals. They can do this independently in 27 states without a supervising physician.

I interviewed Tasha Moon at the beginning of the year. She is a nurse who works with me at Kaiser Permanente, but she opened her Medspa business in March of 2022. By the end of the year, she had already generated $360,000.

I got to see first-hand how she operates her business, and she was able to generate so much in such a short amount of time, so make sure you check out that video.

Dr. Kiiyona Jones is another nurse who quit her $95/hr nursing job at UCLA to start her Medspa business. She made over $150,000 as a medspa owner before she decided to teach other nurses how to start their own medspa business. This year, she is on track to earn over $500,000 from her coaching business.

4️⃣ Nclex Prep Courses

If you didn’t know, there are nurses who are creating and selling their own NCLEX prep courses and making a killing doing so. A few nurses on social media have turned their passion for test-taking into a multi-six-figure and seven-figure business. There are various nurses who can be seen on social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube. One example is @nursingandnclexmastery on Instagram and @SimpleNursing on YouTube. Another nurse, Mohamad Younes, was a guest on our YouTube channel. He earns a significant amount of money each month.

This business model is so profitable because you are serving a vast market of 266,651+ nursing students who are graduating in the US annually. In addition to this market, there are also international nursing students. They want to move to the US and need help passing their boards and getting licensed here.

If you're academically gifted or good at tests, I encourage you to help young nurses. With the right steps, you can earn more money than you thought possible.

5️⃣ Nursing School Study Guides

And this is where you get to change lives, if done right. You can probably recall all those nights in nursing school, searching for helpful resources. You wanted to understand what the professors were teaching you. But the professors weren't doing a good job explaining it well.

I bet you’ve purchased tons of additional resources like pocket pharmacology, medsurg, electrolytes, and an unspeakable amount of other books you brought with you in your study sessions, class, or clinical rotations.

Stephanee Beggs, a nurse, was featured in Forbes. She made over $2 million by selling study guides and materials to nursing students. She began her business as a hobby by using her phone to record study sessions and posting the videos on TikTok. Many students flooded her comment sections, asking if they could buy her notes. It suddenly occurred to her. She could sell these notes to nursing students. Then, she could use the money to support herself after nursing school. She didn't think she would make millions of dollars in her first two years when sales started. But that's exactly what happened.

And if you think that’s something, just wait until you see Kristine Tuttle, the owner of @NurseInTheMaking. She sells amazing flashcards and study guides. Let's say Kristine has 213,004 sales in her Etsy shop. Assuming she earns an average of $55 per sale, she has already made $11,715,220 just from her Etsy shop! Not to mention her website sales, affiliate programs, or other sources of revenue.

I hope you've noticed a pattern: aim for a business that generates income with or without your physical presence. Nurses who must be present to earn money have fewer opportunities than those who attract and sell to many people.

Stephanee and Kristen turned their passion into a business where they built a product that could be sold around the world while only having to focus on marketing the products now.
