How much we've made as nurses so far

The answer may surprise you

What is up, nurse?

Some critics on the internet have said that we make nurses look bad because we talk a lot about money.

The funny thing is, in the first video I posted, I vividly remember someone commenting (a now-deleted comment) that we weren't being transparent enough about our income.

This happens all the time. If you want to be a business owner or a content creator, it just comes with the territory, and you’ll have to learn to embrace it.

There will always be haters on every side.

But I will never waver.

I have always loved hearing about how other people earn their income. The more unique their story or method, the more it motivates me to keep moving forward with whatever unique entrepreneurial endeavors Monica and I are pursuing.

In my opinion, being hyper-focused on financial independence so that working for someone else is an option and not a necessity is something I wish more people would be into—especially within the nursing profession.

This is part of the reason why Monica and I are working hard to build a community of nurses (more details to come) who want to follow the steps we took to go from a negative $80,000 net worth to over $600,000 in just 4 years. This year, we just reached $721,000—woohoo!

This was all in part due to our decision to stop living like the Joneses, pack our bags, move across the country to live and work in Sacramento, and work for an organization (Kaiser) that compensates us and treats us the way all nurses in America should be treated.

So, because you all know how much I love data, today I come to you with our latest income data from January to April 2024.

And I’m not only going to show our W-2 income data; I’m also going to include our business income because I love being transparent.

My earnings:

Jason’s Earnings January to April 2024

As you can see from the spreadsheet above, I have worked an average of 18.51 hours per week so far. My effective net-hourly rate is $89.65. This number was calculated by taking my total net income thus far, $26,544.77, and dividing it by the total number of hours I’ve worked year-to-date—in this case, 296.08 hours.

My average net monthly salary is $7,189.21.

Monica’s earnings:

Monica’s Earnings January to April 2024

Monica worked an average of 16.51 hours per week. This is partly because her department has so many travel nurses that the staff and per diem nurses haven't been able to pick up as many shifts as they did before 2024.

Her effective net hourly rate is $98.36 because she earns a higher wage than I do. My current (actual) wage is $103 per hour, and hers is $133 per hour.

Her average net monthly salary of $7,039 is very close to what I made but slightly lower because she barely worked any shifts from mid-March to mid-April.

Our business income:

Business Income January to April 2024

As you can see from the chart above, we average $3,449 per month—not much, right? But if you look closely, we're not making any money from sponsors this year like we did in 2023.

We typically earn a minimum of $5,000 per sponsored video that we make. However, I have not accepted a sponsorship offer since last year because I don’t want to sell out to a company that doesn’t share our vision.

This is why we've only accepted two sponsorships in the entire three years we’ve been making YouTube videos.

I’d also like to point out that our website is undergoing some renovations in preparation for the community and program we are looking to launch by June 17th.

On another note, we previously held a livestream where we went over these numbers and answered our viewers' questions on air. At one point, one of our viewers asked if we would kindly share our income spreadsheet with her.

At first, I didn’t think it would make sense because she would still have to input some of the numbers manually, like the number of hours she works, her gross pay, and her net pay for each of the pay periods in the chart.

But she insisted, and I obliged.

I ended up tweaking the spreadsheet and plan to make some major changes to it. If you can share this newsletter with your nursing friends and we get over 500 shares in the next week, I will give the spreadsheet to all of our subscribers.

See you soon!
