How it's possible for nurses to work 20 hours and earn $120,000 or more per year
I have the charts to prove it!
What would you do if you could speak with someone who could tell you where to work to make more money than any nurse in the country? Well, guess what?
I know someone—me!
I always consult nurses and advise them to move to a city with high wages and a low cost of living. I also know that, after years of research, the cities with the best value are in Northern California. And, "Why is that?" you ask. This is a part of the country where nurses earn over $200,000 per year without picking up overtime shifts.
For example, Monica and I work as per diem and benefited staff nurses, respectively. This year, we've worked under 20 hours per week. As a staff nurse, I'm only required to work 20 hours or more to receive benefits such as health insurance, dental insurance, paid time off, birthday holidays, floating holidays, weekend differentials, run pay, and more.
Here's a breakdown of my numbers:
Jason’s Earned Income and Hours Worked
As you can see, I worked an average of 16.03 hours per week and earned a gross total of $106,775 while netting $6,420.25 monthly. Monica and I also always opt to contribute the maximum toward our 401ks every year, which is why our take-home is lower than it could be if we didn’t contribute to our retirement accounts.
Here’s a breakdown of Monica’s numbers:
Monica’s Earned Income and Hours Worked
On the other hand, Monica has worked an average of 19.61 hours per week and earned a gross total of $138,875 while netting $7,562.58 per month.
And here’s a combined total of our numbers:
If you’re wondering how much we spend on living expenses, here’s a breakdown:
The above figures are the totals from January 1st through December 2nd. Our overall income will be higher by the end of the year, but our monthly income will remain about the same. Nonetheless, we are spending $8,185.05 every month on personal expenses. Considering we brought home $13,982.83 per month and worked 17.48 hours per week, we averaged a net cash flow of $5,797.78 after all our expenses were paid.
I should also note that we have earned around $32,000 from our business income (YouTube and website sales) so far. We've been averaging $2920 monthly up to the end of November.
If you’ve been following us since we started the channel, you would also know that Monica and I were easily earning between $15,000 and $19,000 after taxes over the past 4–5 years. We were also working an average of 24 to 30 hours per week.
So, if anyone ever makes you second-guess a move to California because the cost of living is too high, send them this email. And, if you’re interested in plugging in your own numbers (years of experience, preferred shift, and hours worked per week) to see what your pay would look like in the highest-paying hospitals in California, we include it in our program!
The program was created for nurses who want to move to California and earn $200,000 per year while working fewer than 40 hours per week (you can actually do it while working 32 hours per week if you follow our plan).
